Why is the JPG larger than the AVIF?

AVIF is simply a more efficient codec — it stores the same picture in fewer bytes. Converting to the older JPG format costs size, which is the trade for being able to open the file anywhere.

A little, unavoidably: you are re-encoding with a different lossy codec. At 85% or above the difference is not visible in normal viewing.

What if my browser can't decode AVIF?
